2024-25 in review: showcasing our research

Over the academic year, we have had the pleasure of showcasing DISC research. This includes several book launches and roundtable discussions. Here are some of the books we have celebrated:

Theorising Drones in Visual Culture by Elisa Serafinelli. Her book considers the roles of drones in visual culture from an interdisciplinary standpoint, utilising a range of theoretical frameworks to do so.

Introduction to Healthcare Knowledge and Library Services by our member Geoff Walton, with Frances Johnson, David Stewart, Gil Young and Holly Case Wyatt. This book offers a perfect foundation for understanding the essential role library services play within delivering healthcare knowledge.

Digital Technologies, Smart Cities and the Environment: in the Ruins of Broken Promises by our member Adi Kuntsman with Liu Xin. They discuss how smart cities- intended cities of ecological prosperity through the use of hi-tech equipment, are rooted in broken promises as the ecological benefits cannot be delivered through the use of technology.

Constant Disconnection The Weight of Everyday Digital Life by Kenzie Burchell. Kenzie Burchell investigates the contradictions of connectivity and disconnection to reveal the truth of how digital lives shape our connections to each other.

Paradoxes of Digital Disengagement: In Search of the Opt-Out Button by Adi Kuntsman. Adi Kunstman and Esperanza Miyake investigate the possibility of opting out of digitality in their book through the exploration of digital paradoxes.
